Cool, comfortable and a pleasure to crawl into. They combine just the perfect combination of crispness and softness.

crisp or soft? Date: March 5, 2010
I find that those who are used to polyester/cotton blend sheets, which are soft, are surprised by the crispness of all-cotton sheets. These are quite stiff at first, but they eventually become very lovely and soft. It may take a while...even months, but one day, you will notice that they are heavenly. They last a long time and are well made. They are softer if you iron them, but not many have time for that. If non-iron and immediate softness is what you want, I respectfully suggest poly/cotton sheets.

Sorry, but I hate these sheets. I did my research and settled on these. I knew they weren't the expensive kind but the sheets from my youth were cheap too! The color was lovely and they are big so I don't get a hernia from stretching a too-small fitted sheet over the mattress. But the feel. Last night I realized it is like sleeping between two sheets of white copy paper. I have had them awhile hoping they would break down or wear in. I have used fabric softener and dryer sheets. I have even massaged and manipulated them in an attempt to find softness. Nothing.

I read where others, mostly younger folks, rated these sheets poorly. Mostly because they weren't "soft enough", etc..... Obviously these "kids" don't know what crisp sheets are. The Percale Sheets are NOT supposed to be soft cotton. THAT'S THE POINT! They are supposed to be CRISP and firm, just like the sheets were when I was a kid. I have been married for 24 years and my wife and I have searched our entire marriage looking for the old fashioned CRISP sheets and finally found them! These are the BEST!

hard and scratchy Date: January 2, 2010
I was very disappointed by these sheets. I purchased them in a Queen size in lavender. The color is beautiful, they fit my pillowtop mattress, and the hemstitching is actually very nice, but the texture of the material is hard and scratchy. All of my other sheets are softer and more comfortable, so I never end up reaching for these. It's a real shame as I was really excited about these when I bought them.

very odd, rough feel Date: September 22, 2009
of all the beautiful items I've ordered from GH, this has been the only one I've been truly disappointed in. Sheets feel oddly rough, not like the smooth feel of the portugal-made percale I've purchased over the years from GH. Never again..hard for me to 'trust GH' now as I am so sorry to have purchased these sheets. Washed them, hoping they'd soften up.. not yet. Feel like I totally wasted my hard-earned, hundred-plus bucks...

Too big, not too soft Date: September 19, 2009
I don't know why soft, smooth sheets with a snug-fitting bottom sheet have suddenly become a thing of the past.

These sheets look fine. The feel is very rough, however. They don't have the smooth hand I expected (and wanted) from a percale sheet with a fairly high thread count.

And then, there's the size issue. They don't fit my bed. I have a queen bed, so I bought queen sheets. But these sheets are sized to fit a mattress a good 4+ inches deeper than mine - which is not particularly skimpy.

I can't use the sheets as they are, because there is no way to get the bottom sheet to stay smooth - it ends up bunched up and very uncomfortable. I had the same problem with the scalloped-border sheets, though they are at least smoother to the touch.

Maybe fabric softener will help Date: September 7, 2009
These sheets can awaken you at night! Pretty color, but sounds like sleeping on plastic, and while the color, hydrangea is very nice with my bedding ensemble, I'm having trouble getting used to these. I'm hoping downy in the wash a few times with soften them up a bit.

I got them on sale, I can't complain too much, but wouldn't buy them again unless I find they can be softened up. The fitted sheet is huge!

Classic! Date: August 30, 2009
I love these. Re: the review "Strange Finish", this is precisely the way good percale is suppose to feel: crisp, super smooth, and crackly like paper. I'm over buying super high thread count, limp sheets and have gone back to these classics that not only last much longer, but feel much better to sleep in.

Not quite Date: August 22, 2009
I was looking for a nice heavy crisp sheet. These were much too light but definitely crisp. However, I have a thin mattress and the fitted sheet was way too big. It hung off the edge and would have bunched up badly had we slept on it. So they are going back. I think I am going to order 2 flat sheets and make my own fitted sheet. But not these. They are definitly not weighty enough for me.

I bought the fitted sheet and pillow cases and love everything about them. The color is perfect, just as website showed! Washed them and I had no shrinkage!!!!!! They fit my pillows and matress perfectly. Came out of the dryer not needing to iron! Feels great to touch.
:O) I am happy!

These sheets look nice but even after 4 washings they feel like they have a finish on the material, that crackles like paper. I bought these for my daughter and she said I should contact the company about it

Border not cut right Date: May 31, 2009
The border on these sheets must not have been cut correctly, as it wrinkles and will not even with a hot iron give up its messy edge. I have been very dissatsfied with these sheets because of that defect. The fabric is very nice; the workmanship is not.

Not what I expected Date: May 3, 2009
I was expecting to really love these sheets after all of the great reviews, but they're extremely scratchy! I washed them before putting them on my bed, took it off after two days of sleeping on them and washed them again but they're just too uncomfortable to sleep on.

They look pretty, but are just not comfortable. It was a real disappointment.

Like them, but a little scratchy Date: April 11, 2009
These sheets look great, I love the colors (true to pictures), and I like the weight of them. However, I've washed them twice now and they are a little scratchy. I'm not actually sure I can sleep on the pillow cases. While I would recommend them, I'm a little disappointed by this. I wanted smoother feeling sheets.

crisp and silky smooth Date: March 28, 2009
Since Wamsutta stopped making their classic pure finish sheets, it has been impossible to find sheets that are both crisp and silky smooth. The goal is crisp not limp, plus silky smooth no rough or plastic-like. These Garnet Hill percales are the closest we've found to the classic Wamsutta. For quality control we recommend GH check the hemstitching tension since the hemstitched hem shrinks up a bit upon washing making this decorative hem of the top sheet pucker a little.

These are my favorite sheets Date: March 25, 2009
That says it all - my favorite sheets ever. They feel fantastic, wear and wash up beautifully, and show obvious quality.

I only wish I could get a more accurate idea of what the colors looked like in person before trying to order. The swatches, both online and in the print catalog, are just too small to get a good idea of what it might look like.

I would also love it if some of the bedding prints had suggested hemstitched sheets that would coordinate. A customer service rep assisted me in choosing some, but it would be quite nifty if they were shown as suggestions right on the site.

Crisp sheets! Date: January 21, 2009
These sheets stay crisp without ironing, and after two years all the hems and elastic are still intact. There is also a very slightly "textured" effect to the fabric, which makes them feel a bit linen-y. These have a little more body than the Signature Scalloped Percale, which is also nice but drapier.
