tent-like, not for petites

The color and fabric of this dress are beautiful and so soft (I got the coral), but the shape is so very big. To be fair, I am typically a petite, but have purchased many non-petites from Garnet Hill that I so adore and fit well. This one, however, starts out quite wide on the top, and spreads into a very very wide A-line. The pleating at the top also contributed to making the dress look very tent-like - almost mumu-ish, by radiating outward, drawing the eye outward too. I understand now why the model inthe photo is hunched forward and has her hands on her hips - to give the illlusion of a skinnier shape. Too bad, I was so excited for it! Will return for a different item.
