Banded-Collar Shirtdress

Made of cotton poplin with a slight sheen and shaped by long front and back darts, this dress can be worn with or without the self-sash for two different looks. Curved bands add a tailored border to the below-the-knee hem and the three-quarter sleeves.

I like this dress very much. I have it in black and a size 4. I'd agree with a previous reviewer that this shirtdress is large for a 4. I normally wear a size 6 in dresses and found this to be comfortably loose. This style is most flattering if you have a straight figure -- not too large bust, medium sized waist, slim hips.

The fabric is very good quality, but it is sheer, and it might be see-through in the white shade.

Not so much... Date: May 13, 2009
I had my eye on this FOREVER! So, when it went on sale, I couldn't pass it up. I am about 5' 9" and ordered an 8. It falls way below my knees and is still too roomy to look flattering. I wish so badly it would work, but I will most likely end up donating it.

Poor fit Date: April 24, 2009
I ordered this in a size 4 and I don't believe it's a true size 4. The dress was way too big and shapeless. Even with the sash, the dress just wasn't very flattering. A major disappointment for me because I really wanted to like it.

Classic Shirtdress Date: February 2, 2009
I bought this in both white and grey and had to send back the white because it was just too sheer to be worn alone. I've enjoyed the grey one however, and am wearing it just as shown on the model and getting tons of compliments. The material is thin... so to be used gently, but it does wash well.

Great addition to wardrobe. I have this in the white which requires weaing over jeans or cropped leggings and a belt is a must - but very cute.

The Sash is a Must Date: January 25, 2009
This dress is made of lovely cotton, but the sash is a must. Without it (or a belt) the dress is quite shapeless. The fig gray is not transparent, but the material is thin. Overall, it's a nice slim dress to have on hand for the summer (but not over jeans).

almost perfect Date: January 21, 2009
I bought this shirtdress in the fig grey color, which is gorgeous. I love the sleeve lengths and the finish of the sleeves and neckline. Like other reviewers, I found it longer on me than it appears in the photo (what? I'm not as tall as the model?). It would have been nice if it were available in petite sizes. Still, I have worn it with jeans and boots and alone as a dress. Almost perfect.

Really cute dress Date: January 20, 2009
I had been looking at this dress online for some time before purchasing it and when I finally decided to purchase it I was glad I did. The fit (size4) was perfect for me, and I loved the material and color (fig).

Looks great on mode ... but NOT on someone w/ HIPS Date: January 20, 2009
i'm 5'9" and although i have some hips, I'm relativly thin. this shirtdress is really interesting, but see through and the fit was a bit off as the chest was too loose (34B) and then snug down towards my hips. the sash was nice ... i bought the same belt, but it looked strange on me.

This is cute, very light and thin. I like it better as a dress. I would think that you would definitely have to wear something under the white one, because it is fairly thin material.

I do really like this dress. I don't like it over jeans, but I get lots of compliments with a turtleneck and leggings. I can't wait until summer to wear it on it's own with a pretty little lace slip underneath. It is a little bit longer than I expected and the fabric is fairly thin, but I like layers. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a versatile dress that can be worn throughout the seasons.

I love the way it feels. I am too short to wear it with jeans, however, as a shirt dress it is just great!

Yes, the material is thin but it's perfect for hot days in SoCal. I love the cut of this dress. It looks like a smart, tailored shirtdress from the fifties. I bought the fig gray and it's not that transparent. For more coverage, one can always wear a slip with this dress. I usually wear a size 2 and the 4 fit nicely with room for shrinkage.

Yikes.. Date: January 16, 2009
Material is very thin. Great for Az weather. Might look better in the darker color so you do not see your flesh through the material. If your arms are a little on the thick side then this will feel too tight as did mine. Drop 5-10 and you should have no problems. It fit everywhere else just fine. True to size so don't forget to measure. I'm glad I did not pay full price. I love Garnet Hill products and will continue to buy the unique products only they offer.

One in every color!!!!! Date: January 11, 2009
I purchased the fig last summer and loved it so much I just bought the black AND white ones. I wore it on it's own and with jeans (super skinny ones!) and it looked fabulous. It does fit large, though. I bought an 8 and ended up with a 4. The material is super soft and nice and thin so it's not too bulky.

Not what I expected Date: January 8, 2009
I am in the mood to try something new, and this looks interesting, but the fabric is just not what I was expecting. The material is so thin I can see my hand through it, and I can't imagine wearing it as a dress. I tried it on over some jeans and I felt like I was wearing a stark white bed sheet. This one doesn't work for me. Maybe the same thing in a heavier linen/cotton blend might have felt better to me. At any rate, I still want something like this to show off my snazzy new Garnet Hill belts!

I get lots of complements on this dress. It doesn't really look that great over jeans, like on the model (or maybe just on me), but it is great by itself or with leggings.
